It’s a fund raiser for the fledgeling “zero-commission” gallery. Should be a good time…

One of the most common requests I get is for t-shirt design.

Probably has to do with the stencil tees our first intern wrote about on our blog.

Or maybe it’s the universe circling back: I made t-shirt designs for my governor’s school hall, senior class at NC School of Science and Math, and the club at NC State where I met Akira, who liked my drawing style so much he wanted to start DK right then. It was 1994. DK became our “real life” job as a couple in 2006.

The short version of this story is I am once again designing a tee. For high school kids.

This time, though, I am armed with the experience of running even a small gig through a rigorous creative process.

Some pix of today’s loose tracing paper explorations…

Revamp: Durham art gallery is now an artists’ collective
    Interesting.

LabourLove Art Gallery, a neat space in Durham shaped by people who care about art and artists, is changing how it does business.
“We’ll market the gallery as a whole, man the store, and throw theme parties instead of traditional openings,” the Herald Sun quoted co-founder John Pelphrey.

DK is curious about the way the gallery will evolve. We’re wishing them a bunch of luck this year, too.
Spaces like these are what Durham has in 2011 that it didn’t have in 2000.

That’s when DK left Durham for greener pastures: west Cork, Ireland and Seattle. We wanted to be around people who were thinking about how to create their own opportunities.
What’s cool about Durham NOW is that there are bunches of cool places that make it possible for people to do exactly that. Good luck to the LabourLove!

Also see the blog post at LabourLoveGallery.com, where they’re recruiting people to pay in to join and show their works.
